Zaheer Khan has reckoned that the current Indian team is ready to go all the way at the upcoming ICC ODI World cup under the leadership of captain Virat Kohli. The former Indian pacer has also heaped praise on the Indian pace bowling arsenal who have been in terrific form since the last year.

At the peak of his career, Zaheer Khan was one of the most feared pacers across the globe. Often regarded as the best Indian fast bowler in the last decade, Khan terrorised batsmen across all three formats of the game. The 6 ft 1’’ bowler amassed a total of 311 wickets from 92 Test matches and remains one of India’s most successful bowlers in ODIs as well. The 40-year old former pacer, who was a part of India's World Cup winning campaign in 2011, stated that the Indian cricket team under the leadership of Virat Kohli are well prepared for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup which is to be played in England & Wales this May.

“Playing conditions are something that comes into place when you visit the country for the first time. This lot of players we are talking about has played enough cricket to not be bothered by it. The bowlers have been familiar with different conditions and they have produced good performances too.

“Rest assured, I think Indian team is ready for the World Cup. They have given enough glimpses of their strength and the forthcoming series against Australia will be another challenge to relish. Overall, I think we are ready,” Zaheer was quoted as saying by Mail Today.

Despite playing with the likes of Ashish Nehra, Ajit Agarkar and others, Khan was left impressed with the current Indian pace attack who have impressed in the last year or so under the tutelage of bowling coach Bharat Arun.

“I think the fast bowlers have been superb. If you look at their numbers, they speak volumes. As a group, they are able to achieve lots. To win Test matches you need 20 wickets, and it has not been a case of just one bowler accumulating all wickets.

“All of them have contributed and just the fact that Umesh (Yadav) and Bhuvneshwar (Kumar) have to wait for their turn shows the depth we have in the bowling line-up,” Khan added.
