VIDEO | Reporters left in splits as Tim Paine receives journalist’s phone call during press conference
While Tim Paine had to wait for seven hard years to make an international Test comeback, he, however, took a very little time to create a fanbase of his own with his witty quips. Today, he answered a reporter's phone in the middle of a press conference which left the press contingent in splits.
Australia failed to put any sort of brakes on India’s batting on the second day as the visitors raced to a total of 622 runs before declaring their first innings. India’s performance also made one thing clear that they can’t lose the Test from here and it becomes just a matter of time that they go back home by winning their first Test series on the Australian soil.
After two days of toil and almost 170 overs of wicket-keeping, one would expect Paine to lose his cool, but the Tasmanian was an oasis of calm. He took on the questions normally and spoke in length explaining why the team failed to dismiss Indian batsmen.
While he was answering one of the questions, a journalist’s phone, which was there on the desk in front of Paine for the audio recording purpose, started ringing. To everyone’s surprise, the Aussie skipper answered the call and was politely conveyed that the owner of the phone is taking his interview.
"Tim Paine speaking. Who is it sorry? Oh okay, who are you after?” Paine asked.
After getting some reply from the other side, the Australian skipper said, “Casey in Hong Kong! Oh. Martin! Oh alright, he's in the middle of a press conference. Can I get him to call you back?”
He then continued, “Alright. no worries, I'll ask him to check his emails. Alright! Thanks, Casey, cheers!
The entire press contingent broke into laughter after hearing the phone call and Paine himself couldn’t help himself and smile.
