Ricky Ponting has lashed out at Australian fans who were once again found guilty of booing Virat Kohli during the fourth Test match of the ongoing series being played in Sydney. Previously, the Indian skipper was at the receiving end from the Australian fans in the Perth Test match as well.

The Indian team look set to register a resounding win in the series finale of the four-match Test saga against Australia as they crossed the 600-run mark in the first innings at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday. Currently leading the series 2-1, India will hope to start their year on a positive note and silence their critics once and for all by putting up a dominant display on foreign soil.

However, Indian captain Virat Kohli has been in the news for all the negative reasons recently. The 30-year old was once again booed by a small section of supporters in Sydney for no fault of his own. Former Australian skipper, Ricky Ponting, was heavily disappointed with the behavior of the home fans towards the Indian cricketer. Ponting slammed their actions and called for more respect to be shown towards Kohli for the remainder of the tour.

"If it was booing then it's absolutely disgraceful. I said that in the Perth Test as well. Show some respect," Ponting said on Channel 7.

Kohli, who was dismissed for 23 on day one in Sydney, has been heavily criticised for his on-field behavior over the course of the series which began in December last year. The top-ranked Test batsman was also at the receiving end of jeers from supporters during the second Test match at Perth as well.

The Indian captain is no stranger to such strong reactions as he was also jeered by fans in the 2012 Sydney Test during his maiden tour of Australia. In addition to that, Kohli was also fined 50 per cent of his match fee for showing his middle finger at the crowd after he was heckled by the fans.
