Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant could be brought under BCCI’s central contract system in view of his recent performance in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Pant is the second highest run scorer in the series behind Cheteshwar Pujara, who has scored more than 500 runs in the series.

Rishabh Pant scored an unbeaten 159 runs in the first innings of the final Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The innings propelled the Wicketkeeper to overtake the Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s runs tally in the series. Though this was Pant’s first big score in the series, he had scored many 20s and 30s all throughout the series which proved valuable for the team.

The performance has brought the focus on the youngster and as per a report by PTI, he is being considered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) to be included in the central contract pay system. The central contract is given to the players who are regulars in Indian squad in any of the formats.

Currently, the central contract has four pay grades. The first one is an A plus category contract which is given to the players who play for India in all the formats. The A category contract is given to players who play only Test matches, except for MS Dhoni while regular players in the shorter format of the game are put in category B.

The players who are in and out of the team are given C category contract. Though reports say that Pant may get a central contract, in which grade he would be given the contract is unclear. Since he is still an inexperienced player and MS Dhoni back in both in T20I and ODI scheme of things for India, he is most likely to get a C category central contract as he will most likely play only in the longer format for India.
