Sourav Ganguly has heaped praise on all-rounder Hardik Pandya for showing great mental strength after having gone through immense criticism in the last few weeks following his infamous interview with Karan Johar. Pandya ended the third ODI having picked up two wickets from 10 overs on Monday.

The Indian cricket team dominated proceedings once again as they brushed past Kane Williamson & Co. in third ODI at the Bay Oval on Monday. Virat Kohli’s boys made it three wins from three as they sealed a series win against the Kiwis and recorded their second away win of the year after previously defeating Australia by a margin of 2-1.

However, one inclusion in the starting XI for the third game against New Zealand was Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya. The youngster was subjected to a lot of criticism over the past few weeks after he made some insensitive comments on popular talk show ‘Koffee with Karan’. Former India captain, Sourav Ganguly, was appreciative of the Baroda cricketer’s efforts to leave the past behind and focus on the present. The former left-handed batsman lauded Pandya’s mental strength which was pretty evident when he stepped onto the pitch yesterday.

“He (Pandya) showed great mental strength. With time, everything cools off and his approach to the match was also quite better. He adds to the strength of the team,” Ganguly told India TV.

Meanwhile, the former KKR skipper further added that he was extremely delighted with the performance of the Indian team in the ongoing New Zealand tour as he heaped praise on the Indian top order batsmen.

“It’s been a better performance than Australia. It has been complete domination and it’s good to see them dominate at home and away as well. The confidence has been great and it’s quite impressive to see the bowlers get them out in 50 overs. It’s been a great year for India in ODIs,” Ganguly added.
