Eight years after conquering the grandest stage the sport has to offer, legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar recalls the special moments post India's World Cup triumph in 2011. Sachin also spoke about India's chances in the ongoing world cup, branding them as favourites to win the cup.

Sachin Tendulkar, arguably the greatest batsman to ever grace the game, had to wait a gruelling 22 years to get his first taste of winning the Cricket World Cup. Despite having almost every record in the book under his belt, the ghosts of not winning the World Cup kept haunting Sachin, until the year 2011.

However, the little master finally had his wish granted, as Team India lifted the World Cup for only the second time - this time in front of their home crowd at Wankhede in 2011. Sachin ended the World Cup as the second highest run scorer with 482, helping his country claim the ultimate prize in the sport. Recalling memories of India's triumph in 2011, Sachin spoke about it how it brought ultimate joy to all the players and the fans back home.

“The memories of 2011 World Cup are incredible memories because that’s what you play for. The ultimate thing is whether we can bring ultimate trophy back to our country and give that joy to millions of people back home in India and all across the globe,”  said Sachin, in an interview in Birmingham to cricketworldcup.com.

Sachin also described the 2011 victory as the single biggest moment of his cricketing career. “For us, the team and the dressing room, there cannot be a bigger trophy than that. There is no bigger cricketing moment and after playing international cricket for 24 years, if you wanted me to pick one moment, I would say that is the moment, without any doubt. Doing that victory lap with that trophy in my hands, cricket doesn’t get bigger than that,” Sachin added.

When asked who he considered as favourites for the World Cup, Sachin had no hesitation in picking Virat Kohli's men as the team to beat.

“Of course, India are going to win. I think India are playing well, once you get to the semis, it’s about having two good days, two solid performances. That is what Indians are capable of, not to undermine what Australia or England are capable of or even New Zealand. There are 2-3 games left that are critical to decide who the top 4 teams are, but once you get to that stage it’s all about having a couple of good days.” he added.
