Jonny Bairstow has mentioned that the best way to deal with a game of cricket is to react to what is thrown in front of you rather than being stubborn with an initial plan. With back-to-back centuries at the World Cup, Bairstow has turned his fortunes around drastically within the space of a week.

After an ugly spat online with several former cricketers, things were looking bleak for Bairstow at the 2019 World Cup. His team’s condition was even more precarious. England were on the brink of an elimination from the World Cup played at home after their loss against Australia.

But, the tide has turned for Jonny and England. With back-to-back wins against strong opponents India and New Zealand, England have booked their place in the semi-finals of the World Cup. Opener Bairstow has struck form at the right time for them. However, England have won their two games batting first under conditions that changed drastically for the team that chased, on both occasions. But, Bairstow believes that the right approach to the game was to be versatile with regard to the toss.

"Really pleased with my form. To play the way we have in the last two games and hopefully in the semis.. is pleasing,” Bairstow said at the post-match presentation, reported Cricbuzz.

“You got to just react to whatever is thrown in front of you. The toss can go either way. We applied ourselves pretty well,” Bairstow said.

Bairstow admitted that the two must-win matches have taken a lot out of the English side’s energy reserves. However, he wants himself and his team to take a couple of days break before the semifinals.

“We are pleased to be through to the semi-final after what has been a tough few weeks. It's going to be important for us to go away and refresh. There is bound to be a bit of soreness, especially after two gruelling games. So ya, refresh and regroup 2-3 days before the semis. Hopefully we will put in good enough performances in the remaining two games and hopefully win them," Bairstow said eyeing the World Cup trophy itself.
