Shreyas Iyer is confident that his success for India 'A' in the recent tour to West Indies would earn him a spot in the national side for the upcoming series against the senior side of the same opponent. Iyer was in good touch in the IPL and did well for the 'A' side under immense pressure.

With India being knocked out of the World Cup in the semi-final and their middle-order woes pretty much evident, players like Shreyas Iyer can look this as an opportunity to cement their spot in the line-up. With India all set to tour West Indies and most of the senior players being rested, Shreyas Iyer should make the cut into the national side. The Mumbai batsman led the Delhi Capitals to the playoffs and did well as a captain as well as a batsman. Iyer is currently playing in the West Indies for the India 'A' side and has done well as a batsman.

“This is going to be the first time I am going to the West Indies. It’s going to be a good experience for me. The wickets are bit like Indian tracks, the bowlers are going to be challenging there as well,” Iyer told bcci.tv.

Iyer has featured in six ODIs for India so far, scoring 210 runs at an average of 42 and loves challenges. He hopes to be under pressure in West Indies as he believes that tight situations often get the best out of him.

“Hope to be under pressure because I can score more under pressure. I tend to score more when I am under the pump. I deserve a chance in the Indian team. My performances in the ‘A’ series should count. My goal is to be better than the previous season, I want to grow as an individual and become more mature as a player. I want try bat till the end,” Iyer added.
