ICC World Cup 2019 | I can discuss issues with Kagiso Rabada man to man, says Virat Kohli
Indian skipper Virat Kohli responded to South African pace bowler Kagiso Rabada’s comments that had labelled him as ‘immature’ and as a player who can’t handle rough talk, by saying that they could discuss issues face to face. The two will face against each other on Wednesday in Hampshire.
One of cricket’s young gems, Kagiso Rabada is as fierce as fast bowlers come in the modern era. Lethal pace and accuracy, he already has 108 wickets in 68 ODIs at the tender age of 24. He is the only player to ever win six awards at the annual dinner hosted by his country’s cricket board, a remarkable achievement considering the kind of legends his country has produced.
However, when it comes to off-field issues, Rabada is equally fierce as he did not shy away from criticizing one of the biggest names in world cricket at the moment. Speaking in an interview last week with Cricket Monthly, Rabada had shared an incident from when his team Delhi Capitals had faced off against the Kohli-led Royal Challenger Bangalore.
“I was just thinking about the game plan, really, but Virat, he hit me for a boundary and then he had a word. And then when you give it back to him, he gets angry. I don’t get the guy. Maybe he does it because it gets him going, but that comes across as very immature for me. He is a phenomenal player but he can’t take the abuse,” Rabada was quoted as saying.
Never known to back down from a battle, Virat Kohli did not waste much time to address the comments. Probably the greatest ever white ball player with almost 11,000 ODI runs, Kohli displayed his characteristic self-confidence and put the matter to bed, off the field, for the time being.
“I am not going to use the press conference to talk against Rabada. If there is anything for me and Rabada to discuss, we can do that man to man. He is always a skilful bowler, he has the potential to run through the opposition, so we need to look to play him accordingly,” Kohli said when asked about it.
The Indian skipper will be eager to make good use of his words and give Rabada a tough time when the two will go head to head tomorrow at the Rose Bowl, Hampshire, in what would be India’s first game of their World Cup campaign.
