ICC World Cup 2019 | Jofra Archer and Jason Roy reprimanded for violation of ICC Code of Conduct

In an enthralling encounter at the Trent Bridge, the hosts who have been widely regarded as the favourites for the tournament suffered a somewhat surprising defeat against a resurgent Pakistan, who made a strong comeback after their humiliation at the hands of the West Indies. If that was not bad news already for England, a couple of their crucial players were found guilty of violating its Code of Conduct.

Jofra Archer, the sensational breakthrough fast bowler, was punished for getting involved in an argument with the on-field umpire in the 27th over and refusing to accept his decision after the umpire had adjudged a wide to Archer’s dislike. The dissent was a clear violation of article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel and the incident cost Archer a merit point as well as 15% of the match fee.

Meanwhile, compatriot Jason Roy was given a similar penalty on breach of Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, after he was found using audible abusive language following a misfield in the 14th over, an act considered to be against the spirit of the game.

England’s opposition too did not get away scotfree from the match, after being one over behind the required over rate which saw captain Sarfaraz Ahmed having to sacrifice 20% of his match fee whereas the other players were fined 10% of the same.
