When the middle order failed to deliver as they fell like a pack of cards after a brilliant start given by Chris Gayle and Shimron Hetmyer, Carlos Brathwaite took up the responsibility to get the win. Unfortunately he fell short by 5 runs. Twitterati had nothing but words of encouragement for him.

Brief Scores: New Zealand 291/8 in 50 overs (Kane Williamson 148, Ross Taylor 69; Sheldon Cottrell 4/56, Carlos Brathwaite 2/58) lost West Indies 286/10 in 49 overs (Carlos Brathwaite 101, Chris Gayle 87; Trent Boult 4/30, Lockie Ferguson 3/59) by 5 runs

Has more twist and turns than an actual horror movie!

Every West Indian fan out there!

One team at a time!

Routine stuff!

Kids playing gully cricket play better than this!

Should do this honour Chris Gayle!

Hilariously true!

And out of nowhere came Carlos Brathwaite!

This is what Brathwaite has done today! From getting slammed to giving hope to the Windies team!

Ben Stokes must be having PTSD right now!

Deja Vu!

Will send shiver down Stokes' spine!

But sadly it wasn't meant to be!

Have to feel for Carlos!

A huge thank you!

You have definitely won our hearts!

Never ever give up!
