India regain top spot in latest ICC ODI rankings
In the latest ODI rankings released by the International Cricket Council, India have become the top-ranked ODI side as the team led the chart with 123 points, pipping England (122) by one point. The two sides meet each other at Edgbaston on Sunday and the clash promises to have a sub-plot now.
Thee days ahead of their much awaited World Cup clash, Team India have dethroned hosts England to become the top-ranked ODI side in the world. In the latest ODI rankings released by the ICC, India stand at the top of the pile with 123 points, followed by England with 122 points. There's a considerable gap between positions two and three, with New Zealand occupying the third spot with 114 points.
New Zealand are followed by their Trans-Tasman rivals Australia, who occupy the fourth position with 112 points. Meanwhile, despite suffering an early exit from the World Cup, South Africa find themselves in the fifth spot with 109 points, ahead of Pakistan (96) and Bangladesh (92). Sri Lanka (78), West Indies (77) and Afghanistan (60) round-off the Top 10.
However, a defeat to the Windies will mean that India will slip one point behind England right away. If India beat both the Windies and England, they will retain at top position with 124 points, while England will drop points and slip to 121. A defeat to Windies and a victory against England will also be enough for the Men in Blue to retain top spot. However, defeat to both Windies and England will mean that England will return to the top of the rankings with 123 points, taking a three-point lead over India (120).
The two sides will meet each other at Edgbaston on Sunday in what will be a must-win match for England to keep their fate in their own hands.
