India vs Australia | Kedar Jadhav credits Virat Kohli and team management for his success
Kedar Jadhav has come out to say that the confidence that Virat Kohli and the Indian team management has shown in him has helped him perform consistently. The Maharashtra all-rounder has also mentioned that this is the time when he can pay back the faith shown by the management.
Jadhav has been in and out of the Indian team especially in the 50-over format because of injury problems. He got injured during the Asia Cup in 2018 and had to miss a few of the games as well but since his comeback, he has looked consistent. Before the 141-run stand in the first ODI of the series yesterday, the duo had put up a similar match-winning partnership in the last ODI in Melbourne as well where Jadhav had scored an unbeaten 61.
Meanwhile, after the unbeaten 81-run innings yesterday for which he also got the Man of the Match award, Jadhav has stated that it is the confidence shown by the team management and skipper Kohli that has worked in his favour and helped him play well for the Indian team.
“Obviously, the kind of confidence they have given has helped me deliver consistently. Credit goes to the captain and management for backing me in my difficult times and this is my time that I pay back to the confidence and faith they have shown in my difficult times,” Jadhav said during the press conference, reported Indian Express.
“Everybody has been encouraging towards me irrespective of how many times I have got injured you know. Every time I have got fit, I have walked into the team. That is the kind of confidence that the team management has in me.”
With some good performance in the middle-order in last couple of years, the Maharashtra all-rounder has made the No. 6 position in the batting order his own. Jadhav recalled his performance in the home series against England back in 2017 where he was awarded Man of the Series award. His knock of 120 runs off just 76 balls won the first ODI of that series against England at his home venue – Pune.
“It’s more than one and half or two years that I have been batting at this number (No 6). I still remember in January, 2017 against England in India, I batted at No 6 only and got Man of the Series,” Jadhav explained.
“From thereon, the team management has been looking at me as a finisher. They have clearly told me that you will be batting at No 6 till the time you are there. So the management and team had been clear about everybody’s role and everybody is clear about what is expected of individual players.”
