Mohammad Azharuddin picks Rishabh Pant over Ambati Rayudu as his No.4 for World Cup
Mohammad Azharuddin has made an interesting inclusion in the form of Rishabh Pant ahead of Ambati Rayudu when asked to pick his playing XI that will feature in the 2019 ICC ODI World Cup in England. Azharuddin has also added that R Ashwin is not in contention to play this year's World Cup.
Mohammad Azharuddin still continues to be one of the most iconic captains to have lead India in the international arena as he has led India in 40 Test matches during the 1990s. When questioned about who he felt should make the squad for the upcoming 2019 ICC ODI World Cup in England & Wales, Azharuddin made some interesting choices. The former India batsman opined that the core of the team will resemble the present squad that is playing Australia but added that Rishabh Pant will come into the scheme of things in place of CSK batsman - Ambati Rayudu.
"Well, I think, from the current team which is travelling I will add two players. I think I will take
"I think all the three fast bowlers - Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah - will make the team. We have two spinners ( Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal) but I don’t know if Ravichandran Ashwin will find a place in the squad. Mostly the team that is playing right not will form the nucleus of the World Cup side," Azharuddin said in a recent interview with Hindustan Times.
Pant has been on the outskirts of the limited-overs team but was given some game time during the New Zealand tour last month. Rayudu has been tried at the number three and number four batting positions over the last two months but is still not a guaranteed starter for Virat Kohli’s team. It will be interesting to see who Kohli, MS Dhoni and Ravi Shastri ultimately decide will make it to the World Cup squad.
