As a cricketer, you have to move forward, reveals Manoj Tiwary on his absence from IPL
Bengal cricketer Manoj Tiwary, who remained unsold at the 2019 IPL auction earlier this year, has revealed that he has no qualms about not being picked by any team this season. The former KKR cricketer further added that selection process for the tournament is unfair to certain players.
Manoj Tiwary, who has played a total of 98 IPL matches and scored 1695 runs in the process, remained unsold at the recent 2019 IPL auction which was held earlier this year. In a recent interview with TimesNow, the Bengal-based cricketer revealed that things like this are bound to happen in the professional world and it was important for one to learn from such experiences and move forward in life.
"It’s a professional world and things like these (happen). As a cricketer, you have to move forward. So, yeah, I have to keep working hard on my game and be prepared for the coming year and yeah, that’s about it. It’s a professional world and things like these (happen). “I have been through so many ups and downs and, you know, I keep motivating myself. I only need the close members of my family – my wife – they are all very cooperative. I don’t need anybody else to help me out on this. So basically yeah, I have been like motivating myself to deal with the situation and yeah, can’t do much about it, not in our control,” Tiwary told TimesNow.
The 33-year-old also commented about the selection procedure in the IPL, terming it to be unfair. Tiwary also said that he did not understand how the dynamics of the IPL auction worked.
“Yes, it’s not fair all the time, it’s unfair. You see so many uncapped players like youngsters coming into Ranji trophy, putting up a good show and then getting a chance. But when you see players at a very young age, who don’t even make it to the Ranji trophy team or the state team in any of the formats, or even in any one format, and have no experience suddenly get picked.
“But having said that, I am not saying this out of anger whatsoever towards any of the youngsters who get the opportunity. That’s what I said, it’s a professional world where everything is possible,” the former KKR and KXIP cricketer added.
