ICC world Cup 2019 | Dearth of left-handers not a concern for India, asserts Sachin Tendulkar

Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has said that lack of southpaws in the Indian batting line-up is not a matter of concern going into the World Cup. India have only one left-handed batsman in the top seven in the form of Shikhar Dhawan, but have enough firepower to pull up on this front.

A left-right batting combination is always a headache for the opponents as it not only makes it difficult for the bowler but also for the skipper to set the field. With India having just one left-hander in the top seven, Sachin Tendulkar believes that the shortage shouldn’t pose any problem for India whatsoever and the team has enough quality batsman to get the job done.

"Ideally left-right combination is something which disturbs the bowler's line and length and also the captain has to readjust his fielding. But if you have good quality batters, which we do, then it really doesn't matter whether it is a left-hand right-hand combination. We have some solid batters who can deliver the punch," Tendulkar said, reported TOI.

MS Dhoni has been incredible for India behind the stumps and brings a lot of value to the table. He has led India successfully to the World Cup title in 2011 and did well in 2015 to reach the semi-finals. Tendulkar feels that Dhoni reads the game very well and his experience will matter a lot in a big tournament.

"It's important that someone who's standing behind the wickets has played for such a long time and has also led India and is in the best possible position to figure out what's happening off the surface. Whether the ball is stopping, bouncing, or skidding, whatever it is, he knows exactly how the ball is coming and he knows where the gaps are and how to close those gaps. His contribution and inputs are always going to be important. Other keepers also try and do the same thing but MS's experience is going to count a lot,” Tendulkar added.
