Yuzvendra Chahal has lauded MS Dhoni’s game reading skills and has stated that the former skipper is a great mind reader. Dhoni’s presence behind the stumps has been crucial for India and he has one of the finest cricket brains in contemporary cricket which will only help India in the World Cup.

Dhoni has immense experience of leading the side across formats and continues to be an asset despite quitting the captaincy. His wicketkeeping skills are incredible and silent his harshest critics with an emphatic ton in the warm-up game against Bangladesh. Dhoni’s brilliant presence of mind behind the stumps has always helped the budding bowlers. Yuzvendra Chahal has said that whenever he is in doubt he consults Dhoni for some advice and hails him as a great reader of the human mind.

"Whenever I am in doubt, I rush to Mahi Bhai. He has got an abundance of experience. Not just me, it helps all the members in the team. Even when he is behind the stumps, his eyes are on us and the batsmen. He can read body language perfectly. He is a great mind reader. He can read a batsman’s footwork closely and then, after a couple of deliveries, he tells us where exactly to bowl. And it really works for me,” Chahal said reported TOI.

Chahal further reckons that Dhoni comes in handy when a bowler is under the pump and his advices often works. The leggie acknowledges Dhoni as a fine mixture of a bower, batsman, keeper and a fielder.

“As a bowler, sometimes you have a tough day and sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes you get hit for sixes. It happens to me as well. But his (Dhoni) advice at that moment helps in those situations. It helps in controlling the flow of runs and getting a breakthrough. Ball kidhar daalna hai (where to bowl), Mahi bhai knows. He is a mix of a bowler, wicket-keeper, batsman and a fielder,” Chahal added.
