Indian legend Kapil Dev has said that skipper Virat Kohli has undergone a tremendous change over the years and has become less instinctive and more mature with his decisions. He went on to say that at times his aggression seems childish but he is constantly challenging and improving himself.

Having guided India to its first ever World Cup win in 1983 by beating the heavyweights West Indies in a true underdog story, if there is someone who knows about captaincy, it is Kapil Dev. He led the cricket team for a long time and kept making them achieve unprecedented glory.

In a book by long time journalist Vijay Lokapally named ‘World Cup Warriors' that covers each player in the World Cup squad descriptively including Indian head coach Ravi Shastri, Kapil Dev had some nice things to say about Kohli’s progress.

“I must say, he has matured amazingly from the time he has taken over captaincy from Dhoni. I know he has been criticized for being aggressive, sometimes brash but that’s how he has played the game,” Kapil quoted.

Captain for four years now, this will be Kohli’s first World Cup as captain after taking over the reigns from Dhoni following the previous edition. Known to play with his heart on the sleeve, he has often been criticized for his conduct but Kapil Dev refuses to divulge much into it, especially considering the transformation he has witnessed.

“He may look childish to some but there was never any doubt that he was challenging to take thee game to the next level. He was instinctive four years back but he has mellowed. You can see the difference in how he seeks reviews from the third umpire. He doesn’t mind consulting his colleagues and that’s a sign of maturity,” the cricketing legend remarked.
