Gautam Gambhir believes that the Indian pace attack is so potent that they don't need to score 500 runs every time to give their bowlers runs on the board. The likes of Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav, of late, are in fantastic form and are tormenting their oppositions effortlessly.

India comfortably beat Bangladesh by an innings and 130 runs and though Mayank Agarwal scored a magnificent double-hundred, the stars of the game were the Indian fast bowlers who absolutely bamboozled the Bangladesh batsmen and they had no answer to their unbelievable quality of bowling on display. In the last eighteen months, although Indian batsmen failed to put the runs on board in tours of England and South Africa, the pace attack always kept them in the game. Thus Gautam Gambhir believes that India don't need to score heaps of runs because this pace attack can torment any batting line-up in the world according to him.

"See you don't need 500 when you have this kind of attack in the dressing room. Probably they would be thinking that if we get to 400 we got the bowling attack to win against any opposition. That is the luxury Virat Kohli has with five unbelievable world-class bowlers," Gambhir said in a post-match show on Star Sports.

"There is a healthy competition that you want to do better than the other one that is the kind of challenges you want in the dressing room. There is a healthy competition between Jadeja and Ashwin and between Shami, Ishant and Umesh and that is the same with the batting and that is what is required in Test cricket," he further added.

Mohammad Shami especially has been in fantastic form and Gautam Gambhir believes that he is the best red-ball bowler at the moment. Shami was absolutely fantastic against South Africa as he tormented the batsman on batting-friendly wickets and with the old ball, something that no other bowler is capable of at the moment according to Gambhir.

"For me, he (Shami) is the best red-ball bowler in the world right now. You talk about Rabada, Cummins but what Shami has done with the semi-new ball he is far ahead than any other bowler. We don't give enough credit to the Indian fast bowlers and that is something that has to change because this fast bowling unit deserves credit," Gambhir added.

Gambhir has captained Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL for a number of seasons and has seen the Eden Gardens pitch change from being a slow and low turner for spinners into a track full of pace and bounce. The pink ball swings relatively more than the red ball and that is what makes it an exciting prospect for the viewers as the Indian pace attack is in terrific form. Gambhir hopes that the fast bowlers will put on a stellar performance yet again.

"Eden Gardens is probably the ground where you would want the pink-ball cricket to start and definitely it would be different and the crowd would be excited and it has always been the home of cricket in India. The surface has changed and it has pace and bounce and it will be interesting to see how Shami, Ishant, and Umesh make the most of it," he concluded
