Sunil Gavaskar seems to have not liked Virat Kohli's statement that it was Sourav Ganguly's team that had started winning matches and said that India were also winning in the 70s and 80s. Gavaskar, who faced the West Indian fast bowlers in their prime, feels that that Indian were a great team too.

Virat Kohli had made a statement that it was Sourav Ganguly's Indian team that created a winning habit and this is something that Sunil Gavaskar did not take much liking to. He claimed that the Indian team also used to win in the 70s and the 80s and those days there were uncovered pitches and lethal West Indian fast bowlers, which made the victories even sweeter and hard-earned.

"This is a fantastic win but I would like to make a point," said Gavaskar in the post-match show.

"The Indian captain said that this thing started in 2000 with Dada's (Ganguly's) team. I know Dada is the BCCI president, so maybe Kohli wanted to say nice things about him. But India were also winning in the 70s and 80s. He wasn't born then."

The Indian team of the 70s and 80s competed in tough conditions in England and West Indies and famously won the 1983 World Cup against all odds. This is the reason why Gavaskar felt a bit hurt and disappointed by the comment made by Kohli.

"A lot of people still think that cricket started only in 2000s. But the Indian team won overseas in the 70s. The Indian team also won away in 1986. India also drew series overseas. They lost like other teams did," Gavaskar said.

Speaking about the game, Gavaskar was extremely happy seeing the Indian bowlers tormenting the opposition. He believes that a lot of factors played crucial parts in making this happen like making bowler-friendly wickets in domestic matches, Kohli bringing his fitness culture into the team, etc.

"The bowling group is fearless now and they believe in themselves while bowling against any batsman. We are reaping the rewards for all the hard work we put in the last 3-4 years," Gavaskar concluded.
