Kane Williamson has expressed his disapproval regarding the racial abuse incident highlighted by England pacer Jofra Archer, stating the incident was “against everything that Kiwis are about”. The revered New Zealand skipper apologized to Archer on behalf of “all Kiwis” and not just the team.

Earlier, on Monday, after the fifth-day proceedings of the first Test between New Zealand and England, Jofra Archer took to Twitter to highlight a case of racial abuse that he had to face at the Bay Oval.

New Zealand Cricket had immediately taken note of the tweet and responded with a promise to investigate the matter and also offered apologies to the visiting cricketer.

A “100 per cent shocked” Williamson also apologised to the England pacer for the alleged racist abuse the Englishman faced during a Test match in Mount Maunganui, which the hosts won by an innings and 65 runs.

“Was I shocked? Absolutely, 100 percent. I will try see him over the next few days if I can, definitely,” Williamson told Stuff.co.nz.

“It’s certainly against everything that we as Kiwis are about, and I certainly hope that nothing like that ever happens again. I can only apologise on behalf of Kiwis to Jofra, not only from our team and how we look to conduct ourselves, but what we expect of Kiwis in general,” Williamson asserted.

“It’s a horrific thing. In a country, and a setting where it is very much multi-cultural, it’s something we need to put to bed quickly and hope nothing like that ever happens again. It certainly won’t if there’s any influence we can have on it.”
