The England and Wales Cricket Board has informed that newly appointed head coach Chris Silverwood will be leaving midway his first assignment following the demise of a family member. Assistant coaches Graham Thorpe and Paul Collingwood will assume the reins of the side for the remainder of the tour.

The England side didn't have a great start to the two-match Test series, having sealed the T20 series 3-2, as they lost the first Test match at Bay Oval by an innings and 65 runs. The visitors who had a healthy lead of 253 at a moment in the match couldn't bowl New Zealand out as they batted 201 overs before declaring but managed to get bowled out twice.

While the visitors try to regroup, their head coach Chris Silverwood will be flying home in the middle of the tour due to the demise of a family member, as informed by the England Cricket Board (ECB). The ECB informed so in a tweet as they also revealed that the assistant coaches Graham Thorpe and Paul Collingwood will be at the helm for the remainder of the series.

"Assistant coaches Graham Thorpe and Paul Collingwood will assume responsibility of team affairs alongside Test captain Joe Root for the remainder of the New Zealand tour," ECB tweeted.

The New Zealand tour was Silverwood’s first assignment after being assigned as the head coach and it won't be a mistake to say that he did quite a good job. Silverwood will take off for home on Saturday after day two of the second Test in Hamilton, amid all the chaos after the innings defeat and racial abuses being hurled at Jofra Archer.
