NZ vs ENG | Trent Boult, Colin de Grandhomme ruled out of the second Test at Hamilton

Leading 1-0 in the series, New Zealand have suffered two big blows in the form of Trent Boult and Colin de Grandhomme who have been ruled out of the second Test against England to be played at Hamilton. While the Black Caps won by an innings and 65 runs in the first Test, Boult could bowl only one over on the final day as he walked off the field after feeling pain in his right ribs. de Grandhomme has also suffered a muscle injury that rules him out too for the second Test.

"An MRI scan yesterday confirmed Boult had strained one of the muscles overlying his ribs on his right-hand side, but cleared him of any bone stress," New Zealand Cricket said in a statement.

"Colin de Grandhomme has a tear to his left lower abdominal muscle, sustained during the second fielding innings in the first test win over England at Bay Oval," the statement further read.

All-rounder Daryl Mithcell has been called to the Test squad as de Grandhomme's replacement and will be looking to make his debut. Another debut is on the cards in the form of exciting pacer Lockie Ferguson in the absence of Boult. The New Zealand team will be hopeful that Boult and de Grandhomme will undergo proper rehab and will be fit for the three-match Test series against Australia that begins on December 7.
