IND vs SA | Cricket needs South Africa to be strong, says Michael Vaughan
The Freedom Test series has finally come to an end in Ranchi as India handed South Africa a second consecutive innings defeat. The visitors were not even close to the hosts in any department throughout the series and former England skipper Michael Vaughan classified it as a concern for cricket.
It has been a very tough month for the Proteas as they were handed three straight, bitter defeats by a dominant Indian team as they failed to open their account in the World Test Championship. South Africa seem to be missing their big guns, who hung their boots recently, a bit too much as they fell miserably short in all departments of the game which resulted in two back to back innings loses for them.
The former England skipper Michael Vaughan was disturbed by this timid performance by the young and inexperienced South African side and called it a concern for the sport and not only for South Africa cricket. The legendary batsman felt that the void created by retiring legends can only be filled by retired legends and called on Mark Boucher, Jacques Kallis and Graeme Smith to take on the responsibility to groom the youngsters.
"This South African Test team is a real concern for the game... The game needs South Africa to be strong ... Time for Mark Boucher to take over... also why wouldn't you use Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis in some capacity," said Vaughan according to TimesNowNews.
After this nightmare of a tour, the Proteas will be hosting England in their backyard, for four Test matches, and would love to make a statement in front of the home crowd. With CSA also hinting changes in the team administration, this might very well be the end of the transition phase of the South African team.
