Newly appointed head of Pakistan cricket Misbah-ul-Haq has come forward to have his say after the former holder of the position Mickey Arthur made a few comments after he was dethroned. However, Arthur defended his comments stating nothing but goodwill between him and the former captain.

Earlier, in a podcast with ESPNCricinfo, Mickey Arthur broke his silence, going into the details about his sacking as the head coach of Pakistan. The comments centred around the committee that was formed by the Pakistan Cricket Board, following Pakistan's exit from the World Cup, comprising Misbah-ul-Haq and Wasim Akram.

Arthur said that he felt betrayed by the people he trusted in the board, pointing at the cricketer duo. After Arthur's contract wasn't renewed, Misbah was named the country's chief selector as well as the new head coach.

The comments did pave way for a stir in social media, after which Arthur said he was just disappointed because he lost a job he loved and nothing was wrong about his comments. “I was dignified in my comments because I love Pakistan, the players I worked with, spent time with for three years and respect Misbah and Wasim,” Arthur told AFP.

“I felt disappointed because I had some unfinished business to do with the Pakistan team and would have loved to continue. But now we have moved on and I wish Pakistan team the best of luck under Misbah,” he added.

Meanwhile, both Akram and Misbah defended their actions as committee members. “I have played for Pakistan and I serve Pakistan cricket in some capacity or the other, so when I was asked to join the committee to decide about the head coach I gave my honest opinion,” Wasim said.

Misbah further added that Arthur was entitled to his opinion and there will always be goodwill shared amongst the two. “I think what he has said is his opinion,” said Misbah. “Whatever he has thought he has said. I always say that everyone has his opinion.

“As a member of the cricket committee we gave our honest opinion. I had good relations with Mickey. Good relations are always there and will remain there.”
