Piyush Chawla, who was bought by CSK ahead of the 2020 season, admitted that it is important to have a healthy competition amongst spinners in the camp. He also revealed that it is a pleasure to be part of CSK, under the leadership of MS Dhoni, who he opined to be the best in the world.

Ahead of the 2020 season of the IPL, all eyes were on CSK and their auction strategy after they narrowly lost the 2019 season by one run. When CSK bought the former KKR spinner Piyush Chawla for Rs 6.75 crore, it created a massive uproar and cry. However, it was later revealed that the management made the decision after skipper Dhoni had wanted the leg-spinner. In the squad filled with spinners, the franchise’s new recruit Piyush Chawla admitted that it is important to have healthy competition amongst spinners.

“Obviously first reaction was I was quite happy. As you are talking about a lot of spinners but we all know how Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) plays around with the spinners. So that will be really good for me and for the team. It is also very important to have healthy competition in the team,” he said Cricket.com

He also stated that it is a pleasure to be playing under Dhoni’s leadership, with the leg-spinner adding that he is one of the best in the world. The spinner from Aligarh also stated that he will get to learn loads from Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir in the CSK camp.

“The good part is when I go there I will get to learn lot of things from Bhajju Pa (Harbhajan Singh). We all know Imran Tahir, what kind of a bowler he is and his energy level even at this age. So it will be fantastic to play with these guys,” he further added.

“It’s always a pleasure playing under Mahi Bhai (MS Dhoni), because we all know what kind of a captain he is. He is one of the best in the world. As a bowler you enjoy playing under somebody like Mahi Bhai,” Chawla concluded.
