IND vs AUS | Lyon has improved a lot as a bowler in last four-five years, feels Cheteshwar Pujara

Nathan Lyon is one of the best spinners in world cricket at the moment. He's right up there with the best and even on unhelpful Aussie wickets, he has been able to stamp his authority over the years. And today on the first day of the Adelaide Test, he was the most lethal bowler from the Australian side. He was difficult to bat against for both Kohli and Pujara and only Rahane could play him easily. He got out Pujara on 43 who looked set for a big score on the board after getting set at the crease.

The offie was getting turn and bounce from the wicket and was constantly threatening to take wickets. Speaking in the post-day presser, Cheteshwar Pujara said that he really enjoyed facing the Australian bowlers and had a clear game plan which he didn't want to reveal it to the press.

“Well, I mean playing in Australia is always challenging and both of us (Kohli and Pujara) love a challenge. We had a word on how we were going to approach the series but the best part about being in Australia is that we know how to approach a particular bowler or the bowlers. We know their game plans and the way Lyon was bowling today, we had to respect that," Pujara said in the post-day presser.

"Overall I always say that I can’t talk about my gameplan. But yes both of us enjoyed the challenge of facing the Australian bowlers. Yes, he’s been one of their leading bowlers, especially in the middle-overs, where the ball is not swinging much and trying to pick as many wickets as possible,” 

Pujara, who got out on the bowling of Lyon lavished praise on the spinner and said he has taken his game to another level over the years.

“I think he has improved as a bowler in the last four-five years and it’s the revs that he gets. He likes to bowl and bowl as many overs as possible and that’s another advantage which he has. His line and length is really good and has improved a lot, and that is something which helps him. His revs are in a much better position now than the last four-five years and he likes to take on the challenge. As a batsman, we have to be prepared and take the challenge.”

Australia ended the day in an advantageous position as India were reduced to 233 for 6 from 188 for 3 after Kohli's run-out changed the tide in favour of the hosts.
