India have been penalized five runs for the repeated offence of running on the pitch and Australia will start their run-chase at 5/0 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium. Ravindra Jadeja was warned twice but after the repeated offense, the on-field officials decided to penalise India.

Running on the pitch is a major offence by the International Cricket Council rules and India were caught violating the rules during the second ODI between India and Australia at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. Ravindra Jadeja was warned by the umpire for the first time when the all-rounder, during his partnership with KL Rahul, was found running on the pitch but he ended up committing the crime for the second time in the next over.

As a result, Australia will start their run-chase with the scorecard reading 5/0. That means technically they will have to score 336 runs to secure the series lead of 2-0. It was not the first time that Jadeja committed the same mistake in international cricket as five runs had been added to New Zealand's tally after the left-arm spinner was caught running on the pitch. Recently, Marnus Labuschagne and David Warner were found running on the pitch, which resulted in the umpire calling five penalty runs against Australia in the Sydney Test against New Zealand.
