IPL 2020 | Set a bar for myself last year and was looking to raise it, claims Rahul Chahar

The Indian Premier League is not just a celebration of the highest level of T20 cricket, but it is also a launchpad to success for many. It is the stage that has made the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya what they are right now and it can rightfully be said that the IPL has taken over the role of the biggest feeder system to the national team.

But in the current global pandemic that the world is going through right now - the COVID-19 - the 13th edition has come under severe doubt, with the tournament being on the verge of being cancelled. Rahul Chahar, a promising talent who has his own success after rising through the ranks of Under-19 cricket for India, however, is sceptical that he might suffer because of the lack of game-time a cancelled IPL might bring. 

“It is disappointing, it’s such a great opportunity. I’m practising right now. Everything else is closed in Mumbai. If you don’t practice, you’ll not be in touch. I set a bar for myself last year and was looking to raise it,” the Mumbai Indians leg-spinner, who became a regular after MI dropped Mayank Markande from the side, told Hindustan Times.

As of now, there is no clarity on the IPL but the nation-wide lock-down imposed by the government of India might be the end of speculation that this edition will be deferred for good.
