Shreyas Iyer, in a Q&A session on Twitter, labelled Ricky Ponting, the coach of the Delhi Capitals franchise, as outstanding and attested that the freedom the Aussie gives to his players is mesmerizing. Iyer has further revealed that his ultimate dream was to play Test cricket for India.

The Delhi Capitals franchise, right before the start of the 2019 season, decided to revamp their side - which included a name change - and at the heart of the move was making leadership changes, including appointing Ricky Ponting as coach and Shreyas Iyer as captain. The move paid instant dividends as the franchise finished 3rd on the points table and qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2012, and it increasingly looked evident that the Iyer-Ponting duo shared infrangible chemistry between them, something that rubbed off on the whole team.

Thus, unsurprisingly, Iyer, who has now stamped his place in the Indian side, in a Q&A session on Twitter on Wednesday, labelled the former Aussie skipper as an ‘outstanding’ coach and said that the freedom Ponting gives to his players is off the charts.

“He’s an outstanding coach to work under and the amount of freedom he gives you is mesmerizing,” said Iyer, replying to a fan in a Q&A session on Twitter.

The Q&A session had a lot of interesting chatter and Iyer further went on to talk about his Test ambitions and how the great Sachin Tendulkar inspired the youngster to take up the sport. Furthermore, Iyer went on to reveal that Sachin, Kevin Pietersen, AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ricky Ponting are the cricketers he considers as his idol.

Here are some interesting excerpts from the Q&A session:
