India women to play historic pink-ball Test against Australia, confirms Jay Shah

On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced the annual contract for the women’s cricket team. Following that announcement, earlier on Thursday, BCCI’s secretary Jay Shah confirmed that the Indian women’s team would take on Australia in a one-off Test match.

After years of absence from the longest format, India are set to take on two of the Women’s cricket giants - England and Australia - in the span of six months. Not just that, the one-off Test against Australia is slated to be a pink-ball Test. Last year, the men’s team kicked off their Test series Down Under with a similar pink-ball clash in Adelaide. 

“Taking forward our commitment towards women's cricket, I am extremely pleased to announce that Team India @BCCIwomen  will play in their first-ever pink ball day-night Test later this year in Australia,” he announced on Twitter.

India’s last Test series came in South Africa, in 2014, where they won the only Test in Mysore, by an innings and 34 runs. Since then, they haven’t played a Test for seven years, with this year’s clash against England being their return to the format. Now it will be followed by Australia in the same year. It would be their first-ever clash with the pink-ball.
