Former India cricketer has questioned Rajasthan Royals for backing Riyan Parag saying that the franchise has seen something unique in him which no one has seen in last three years. Riyan Parag was bought for Rs 3.8 Crore and he has managed to score only 43 runs from four innings in IPL 2022 so far.

Rajasthan Royals are a strong outfit in IPL 2022. They have a strong top-four in the batting unit and the bowling is equally commendable. They have a spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal with the pace pair of Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna. However, the team seems to have problem of a finisher in the lower order.

Riyan Parag was bought into the auction for Rs 3.8 Crore by Rajasthan Royals. He was expected to finish the games for the franchise but his batting has been below par in the tournament. In his last game too, Parag was able to score only 18 runs off 16 balls while chasing 193. Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has questioned the backing of Parag by the franchise mentioning records of his past two seasons. Manjrekar said that the franchise has seen something unique in the cricketer which no one has seen in the last three years.

“Riyan Parag, in two full IPL seasons, and he averaged about 11. His strike rate was around 110. But, they went for him in this auction and bought him at a much higher price of ₹3.8 crore. There’s something that they have seen in him, which we haven’t seen in last three years. He’s young and I hope eventually we get to see why they keep going for Riyan Parag, with the kind of returns that he has given.” Manjrekar said on ESPNcricinfo.

In his four innings of the IPL 2022, Parag has scores of 12, 5, 8, and 18.
