Virender Sehwag has reckoned that Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Rahul Tripathi was the best No. 3 batsman in the recently-concluded IPL 2022. Tripathi, who was bought at INR 8.5 crore at the mega auction, played a crucial role when SRH won five matches on the bounce, but due to lack of support, they failed.

Rahul Tripathi had an impressive IPL 2022 with his new franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The stylish batsman aggregated 413 runs in 14 matches this year, with an aggressive strike rate. Tripathi was used as SRH's No. 3 batsman, and he did his part remarkably well. However, due to little support from his teammates, they failed to qualify for the Playoffs.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, India's talismanic former opener Virender Sehwag heaped praise on Rahul Tripathi, saying the latter was the best No. 3 batter in IPL 2022. Sehwag also highlighted Tripathi's vital contributions during SRH's five-match winning streak. Notably, Tripathi scored 39 not out, 17, 71, 34 and 7 not out respectively on those five matches.

"Rahul Tripathi batted really well at No. 3. He scored over 400 runs this season and was the best No. 3 batter of the season. If you look at all teams, if there is one player who has attained most success at No. 3, it is Rahul Tripathi, who scored so many runs at that position," Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

"He won several games for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and he contributed a lot to SRH winning five matches in a row."

Tripathi played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) until last season. Then, he was picked by SRH at a whopping INR 8.5 crore. He proved his value in his new franchise, but it was not enough to get the glory.

Joe Root is in the form of his life as in the last two years, the right-handed batter has consistently scored runs and recently became only the 14th batter to breach the 10,000 run mark in Test cricket. Former India selector Saba Karim feels that Root is way ahead of Kohli, Williamson and Smith.
