Sunil Gavaskar is of the opinion that MS Dhoni will continue with Chennai Super Kings as a mentor for the next season. Gavaskar further added that if Dhoni wasn’t keen on continuing, he wouldn’t have taken the captaincy back from Ravindra Jadeja after the team has played eight matches.

IPL 2022 has been one of the worst seasons for Chennai Super Kings and they added another loss to their tally in the latest game against Gujarat Titans. The team suffered a seven-wicket defeat as GT chased down the target of 134 courtesy of Wriddhiman Saha. Ahead of the season, CSK handed the leadership duties to Ravindra Jadeja. The team had a torrid start and after eight games Jadeja relinquished the role to focus on his own game.

Now, the reigns are handed back to Dhoni. However, he hasn’t revealed his future plans for the team and so it still remains to be seen whether he will be with them next season. The topic of Dhoni’s availability for next season is currently a hot topic and former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has also shared his views.

Gavaskar believes that Dhoni will remain with the franchise as a mentor.

"I think he (Dhoni) said, 'You will definitely see me in yellow'. Whether it's a player uniform or another yellow, it remains to be seen. I do believe he will be around as a mentor. If he wasn't keen on continuing, he would not have taken the captaincy back," Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

"Sometimes you learn more from failures than from success. Maybe at that point in time with two more matches before Jadeja's unfortunate injury, Dhoni would have given Jadeja a couple of matches to get that sort of experience. I do believe he will be back in yellow for sure. No question about that."

CSK has been the most successful franchise under the leadership of MS Dhoni winning five IPL titles.
