The Northamptonshire Cricket Club announced the return of Yuzvendra Chahal for one One Day Cup match and the remaining five County Championship matches this season. While the side have no chance to make the knockout cut, Chahal’s presence for the List A games would bolster their line-up.
Chahal is likely to join the squad on Wednesday for Northamptonshire’s last league-stage fixture in Canterbury. He is also supposed to play a part in the last five Championship games starting August 22 against Middlesex. Chahal was a part of the same County setup in 2023, having scalped nine wickets in two games.
The team’s head coach John Sadler was excited about Chahal’s addition to the group and expected extra depth of variety in their bowling department.
“Yuzvendra is another high-profile overseas player who brings with him a wealth of experience and some incredible skills,” Sadler said.
“His record speaks for itself and his wicket-taking ability will add strength to our attack,” he added.
The Northamptonshire are positioned seventh in the Division 2 of the Championship with 97 points from nine matches. They’ve lost a couple of matches from nine games but are yet to win a single match.
