Lucknow Super Giants welcome Zaheer Khan as new mentor

Former Indian cricket legend Zaheer Khan has been appointed as the new mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The 45-year-old was in contention for the mentor role for LSG as Gautam Gambhir left the franchise to rejoin his former team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), ahead of IPL 2024.

‌Zaheer will don in a new role as the mentor of LSG ahead of the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League. The former left arm quick will succeed Gautam Gambhir in the role of mentor as the latter is now the Indian Men’s Team Head Coach following his success with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2024 IPL 2024.
The KL Rahul-led side announced Zaheer Khan's new role through their social media channels. Franchise owner Sanjeev Goenka, speaking at a press conference, stated that Zaheer will be responsible for overseeing the overall development of the players.

Zaheer’s new role signifies his comeback to the IPL after a two-year break. He had previously been with the Mumbai Indians, where he played a key role in their successes from 2018 to 2022.

His appointment is expected to strengthen the LSG bowling unit after Morne Morkel departed to join the Indian Cricket Team as their bowling coach.

According to Revsportz Global, Zaheer Khan was present at the press conference and remarked, “ I will make sure that the process that is required to LSG the next level is there. The next season is going to be a special one.”

Regarding the highly criticized impact player rule, Zaheer expressed a contrasting viewpoint. He said, “ I support the Impact Player rule because it is giving uncapped players a lot of opportunities.”
