Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik has new shoes to fill after being appointed as the batting coach and mentor for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Karthik was a part of the franchise’s setup in the recently concluded Indian Premier League before calling it a day from all forms of cricket.

The Tamil Nadu-bred star was picked by RCB during the 2022 IPL mega-auction after the Kolkata Knight Riders released him. His impressive performance in the edition rightfully earned him a national call-up for the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

Karthik is one of those few players who have been a part of the glitterati tournament since its inception. He represented six franchises in his IPL career and donned the RCB jersey in 2015 before a three-year stint between 2022-24.

After being declared the batting coach and mentor for the Men in Red and Gold, the 39-year-old expressed his passion for the “new chapter” of his life.

“Hopefully, the breadth of my experiences as a player can contribute to the development of the group and added value," he further added via a press release.

Karthik will be accompanied by bowling coach Adam Griffith, head coach Andy Flower, and director of cricket Mo Bobat for the upcoming IPL edition.

"DK is an excellent addition to our coaching group. He was thrilling to watch on the field, and I'm sure he will be just as impactful as a coach. His longevity and track record as a player speaks volumes about his skill and dedication. I know he will bring that same quality and commitment to this new professional chapter,” expressed Bobart.

Parallel to his cricketing tenure, Karthik has made a name for himself as a commentator as well. Having represented in 257 IPL games, the gloveman amassed 4842 runs at a strike rate of 135.36. His 174 dismissals behind the stumps is the second-best after MS Dhoni (190) in the tournament’s history.
