LPL | Twitter wide-eyed as Phillips flies into fit of rage after Gurbaz sells him down the river

Walking into a knockout game as the team's most on-song batter and playing a match-winning knock is the stuff dreams are made of for every professional cricketer. Glenn Phillips had the first part of the fantasy nailed down but couldn't quite execute the second half in Colombo, leaving him livid.

‌Colombo Strikers took on the Kandy Falcons in an all-important Eliminator at R Premadasa Stadium and were asked to bat first after losing the toss. Muhammad Waseem slotted into the top of the order alongside Rahmanullah Gurbaz but fell early in the third over to continue with Colombo's unfortunate trend at the start of the innings. Nevertheless, the in-form Glenn Phillips walked in next with hopes of taking things up a notch with the fiery Afghan at the other end but things quickly went downhill for the Kiwi unexpectedly.

Facing Angelo Mathews first-up, Phillips gently pushed a length delivery towards cover and called for a single. Gurbaz was quick to respond and the Black Cap sprinted across towards the other end to comply but to his horror, Gurbaz stopped in his tracks after taking a couple of steps forward. The opener had noticed Dasun Shanaka steaming in to collect the ball and decided the danger end wasn't to his liking, even though Phillips was more than halfway down the track. The Kiwi carried on with his momentum while Gurbaz promptly turned around and Dinesh Chandimal clipped off the bails to end the former's stay.

Phillips was livid with the turn of events as he walked off with his chest pumped and muttering constant curses under his breath. The Kiwi was evidently finding it difficult to contain his emotions, exhibited through a furious punch on the bat, slamming the willow down on the deck, and then throwing it up in pure disgust. Twitterati was thoroughly entertained by the passage of play and took to social media to express their immediate reactions.
