Rarely are there blatant mismatches at the very elite stage of a professional sport but it comes with the territory in cricket's efforts of global expansion. Fazalhaq Farooqi proved to be the beneficiary of such a difference in class in Guyana with a historic performance against Uganda.

Afghanistan hardly had to break a sweat en route to a mammoth victory against newcomers Uganda in their World Cup opener against Uganda on Tuesday. The side put up a daunting target of 184 for the Cranes on the back of a 154-run opening stand between Rahmanullah Gurbaaz and Ibrahim Zadran before Fazalhaq Farooqi demolished the opposition with sensational figures of 5/9 in his four overs. The right-arm quick had delivered twin blows in the opening over itself and it had taken a valiant block by Riazat Ali Shah to deny him a hattrick. When the opportunity for three on the trot arose again, Farooqi hilariously showcased self-awareness of the difference in skill level between the two opposition sides.

In the 13th over of the innings, Farooqi bowled a slow cutter into the duck that flummoxed Riazat to crash into the stumps, bringing skipper Brian Masaba to the crease. The batter was greeted by a seam-up delivery wide of the stumps and sensing an opportunity, he went hard at the Kookaburra only to get a thick outside edge that was safely grabbed by Rahmanullah Gurbaaz behind the stumps. Having bowled disciplined lines and lengths throughout the match, Farooqi was embarrassed at having earned not only a scalp but a chance at a hattrick form such a loose delivery and let it show by laughing out loud before nestling his face into his palm.

Twitterati however had no qualms at celebrating Farooqi's efforts regardless of the quality of the delivery and heaped praise on the pacer.
