The worst thing about getting injured in cricket is not the pain but in losing the momentum. Such was the case in the game between Sri Lanka and South Africa when Angelo Mathews’ delivery struck Proteas skipper Aiden Markram in the lower part of the body, prompting physio's intervention.

‌Losing the toss paid off well for South Africa as they bundled out Sri Lanka for just 77 runs at Nassau County Stadium in New York. Proteas speedster Anrich Nortje bowled exceptionally well, finishing with figures of 4/7. Additionally, Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj each picked up two wickets, leading to the Lankan batting collapse. In reply, South Africa had a shaky start, with Reeza Hendricks departing in the second over and Aiden Markram suffering an injury blow in the next over.

On the third ball of the third over, Angelo Mathews bowled a length ball to the Proteas skipper. The ball jagged off the seam, angling in towards the leg stump. Markram attempted a smash but missed, and the ball struck his lower back. In visible discomfort, Markram moved away from the crease and lay down in pain. The physio quickly attended to him, helping alleviate the pain. Shortly after, Markram looked fine and continued batting, chasing the small target of 78 runs.

The Twitterverse empathized with Markram’s injury and took to social media to discuss the incident.

Hit!

He is finding time!

Good one!

Class!

Hahaha!

Ohh why?

May be that side!

He is sometimes!

He needs to give a thought on it!

Hmmm!
