‌Kyle Mayers replaces injured Brandon King in West Indies T20 World Cup 2024 squad

The International Cricket Council (ICC) have approved Cricket West Indies’ desire to replace injured Brandon King with Kyle Mayers for the remainder of the T20 World Cup. The latter was a part of the reserves in the West Indies squad before being roped in as a side strain ruled out King.

King suffered a side strain during their last encounter against England in the Daren Sammy International Stadium, St. Lucia. He was retired hurt for 23 and did not field in the second innings. After a medical assessment, the 29-year-old was ruled out of the remainder of the mega-event with a side strain, thus making way for Mayers as a replacement.

Averaging 21.38 in 37 T20Is, Mayers notched up 727 runs at a strike rate of 140.62. With the ball in hand, the all-rounder is yet to earn a T20I scalp despite bowling 16 overs.

For a player to add to the World Cup squad, it's of utmost importance that the replacement gets approved by the Event Technical Committee committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The group consists of Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager – Cricket), Chris Tetley (ICC Head of Events), Johnny Grave (CEO, Cricket West Indies), and Kass Naidoo (Independent Representative).
