Unfortunate incidents on the cricket field remind us of the game's unpredictable nature. Such was the scenario during an unfortunate incident at the eliminator game between Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi, where a throw by Mohammad Rizwan hit his gloves on the ground, leading to five penalty runs.

‌The Multan Sultans got off to a strong start when David Willey dismissed the in-form Peshawar opener Saim Ayub in the first over itself. Despite this setback, Babar Azam and Mohammad Haris managed to guide their team to a respectable 51/2 in six overs, with Haris falling on the last ball of that over. The momentum seemed to shift with Usama Mir's spin, as he claimed the wicket of Haseebullah Khan in the eighth over. All attention was on Babar and Tom Kohler-Cadmore to conjure some magic. However, the game took an unexpected turn when it was halted due to a rare incident involving Rizwan's gloves, resulting in Multan Sultans being penalized five runs.

On the final delivery of the 10th over, Khushdil Shah delivered a length ball to Kohler-Cadmore, who executed a paddle sweep towards fine leg. As the batters ran to take a single,  Mohammad Rizwan dashed from his wicket-keeping stance to retrieve the ball. However, upon replay, it was revealed that Rizwan inadvertently slipped off his gloves as they lay on the ground and the incoming throw hit the gloves on the ground. This prompted a discussion between Rizwan, the Multan contingent, and on-field umpire Aleem Dar.

Following the discussion, Aleem Dar signalled five penalty runs by the rule that prohibits the keeper from leaving his glove or any equipment on the ground. With a sense of dejection, Rizwan and his teammates returned to their respective positions, realizing that the wicket-keeping gloves had inadvertently cost them five crucial runs in this pivotal eliminator game.

The Twitterverse swiftly responded to this unfortunate incident, flooding social media platforms with their thoughts and reactions.
