Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant has been handed a one-match suspension alongwith a fine of INR 30 lakh for failing to maintain the over-rate for the third time in the season, against Rajasthan Royals on May 7. The rest of the team has also been fined 50% of their match fee up to INR 12 lakh.

On Sunday, Rishabh Pant would be forced to sit on the sidelines in a crucial encounter against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy. The rest of the team involved in the encounter, including the impact player, were also penalized 50% of their match fee up till INR 12 lakh.

Pant's suspension came after Delhi Capitals were found to be 10 minutes behind the time limit at the start of the final over against Rajasthan Royals in Delhi during their 20-run defence of a target of 222. While the ordinary regulations allow the batting team the benefit of an extra fielder inside the 30-yard-circle in such circumstances, a third-time offence translates to a one-match ban for the guilty skipper. The pronouncement was made by the match referee for the encounter Daniel Manohar and was later upheld by the BCCI ombudsman following an appeal by the Capitals.

Both RCB and DC are engaged in an intense tussle for the final playoff spot and a loss for the currently fifth-placed visitors would make them fall behind in the race albeit they would remain in contention. With last season's skipper David Warner also injured, Axar Patel will likely take over the reins against Faf du Plessis and co.

Rishabh Pant the living Legend!
