CSK vs RR | Twitter in disbelief as riled up Jadeja succumbs to rare 'obstructing the field' verdict

The age-old adage dictates everything is fair in love and war and sports in nothing but the amalgamation of those two sentiments. Rajasthan Royals thus had little qualms in claiming Ravindra Jadeja to be obstructing the field during a crucial juncture in the clash that left the all-rounder seething.

Chennai Super Kings seemed to be cruising along to a low target of 142 in their encounter against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday before a flurry of wickets in the second half of the innings invited the visitors back into the fixture. The hosts needed less than run-a-ball with the death overs approaching with the experienced pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja seeming destined to take the team home until a bizarre incident cut the latter's stay at the crease short in a controversial manner.

On the penultimate ball of the 16th over, Jadeja guided an Avesh Khan delivery down to third man and called for a quick double. However, Gaikwad rightly ruled there was no second run for the taking and sent back his compatriot even though Jadeja was well past the halfway mark of the pitch by then. The veteran executed a quick turn-around even as Sanju Samson collected the throw from the deep and fired in a throw at the non-striker's end. However, as Jadeja was turning, he went from wide of the pitch to the middle of the track and altered his course just enough that the Kookaburra struck him square on the back. Samson immediately raised his hand in appeal and the third-umpire concurred that Jadeja had obstructed the field to declare the batter out.

The Saurasthra all-rounder was livid at the verdict and had a heated word with the umpires before accepting his fate even as an intense debate brewed on social media.

Was it intentional?

That was a rule!

LOL!

What just happened!

It wasn't two!

Fair enough!

Yeah!

LOLLLLL!!!

May be!

Hahahaha! OK
