Criticizers will criticize but it is our job to silence them without performances. This could be the thought process that Rahmanullah Gurbaz followed during the third ODI against Bangladesh as he secured a scintillating century after a couple of low scores in the previous two outings.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bangladesh got off to a brisk start by Soumya Sarkar and Tanzid Hasan before Afghanistan bowlers bounced back at them halfway through the innings. However, a 145-run fifth-wicket partnership between Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mahmadullah Riyad set up for a 244-run first innings. In reply, Afghanistan lost wickets quickly after the opening stand of 41 runs before Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Azmatullah Omarzai steadied the ship. With time, the game slightly tilted towards the Afghanistan side as Gurbaz neared his century after a long wait.

On the third ball of the 38th over, Gurbaz smoked a full-pitched delivery from Soumya Sarka down the ground for a colossal six and reach the 99-run mark. Although he defended the next ball, the right-hander managed to flick a fuller one towards square of the wicket on the leg side to cross over and notch up the century. Soon, the camera focused towards the Afghanistan dugout where Hashmatullah Shahidi, the hosts’ captain was seen bowing down to the wicketkeeper. The Twitterverse lauded the mesmerising knock from the batter who bounced back after a couple of single digit scores in the series.
