Test cricket becomes riveting with fierce match ups thrown in and the second Test between Australia and England produced one such. Pacer Jofra Archer tried to break Steve Smith’s rhythm with a barrage of short balls but the Aussie skipper responded with a creative ramp shot over the cordon.

After dismissing England for 334 early on the second day of the second Test in Brisbane, Australia quickly seized advantage with openers Jake Weatherald and Travis Head adding 77 runs in just 13 overs. Weatherald and Marnus Labuschagne hit stroke-filled half-centuries at the Gabba as the hosts went past the 200-run mark.

Steve Smith and Cameron Green then joined together as the deficit also came close to 100 runs. England skipper Ben Stokes brought Jofra Archer in the second over of the final session to find a breakthrough for the visitors. The pacer tried to break Smith’s rhythm with some short stuff and a leg slip in place.

The Aussie skipper was also ready to take on Archer, top edging the second ball over the slip cordon for a lucky boundary, while going for a full blooded pull shot. The pacer was not impressed as he served a cold stare to the batter without uttering a word.

The Aussie batter, however, remained unperturbed as he continued to build his innings steadily under lights. Two balls later, a bruised Archer came up with another short ball and this time Smith was ready with an instant reply.

The Aussie batter quickly moved his body away to ramp the pink cherry over the slip cordon. He cleverly used the pace of the ball to guide it past the ropes for a maximum and replays showed the ball hitting the bat right on the middle.

Smith had his moment of redemption after a wrong shot earlier and Twitter was impressed as he went about showing who the boss was. Smith, now, has scored more than 100 runs off the pacer in Tests without getting out even once.
