There is nothing more insulting for a fast bowler than getting hit by a tail-ender, and Akash Deep subjected Jofra Archer to that embarrassment during the India-England Test at Lord’s. The number nine batter flicked the England pacer with ease over the ball-watching square leg fielder.

‌After starting the day at 145/3, India inched closer to the England total during the third day’s play at Lord’s. KL Rahul top-scored for India with a patient century while Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja also chipped in with crucial fifties.

Pacer Akash Deep walked into the middle with the fall of Jadeja (72) in the 114th over, with the visitors still needing 11 runs to equal England’s total. The number nine batter started shakily as he survived two LBW dismissals in his first three balls against pacer Chris Woakes. With umpire Sharfuddoula ruling him out, Akash had to resort to DRS to bail himself out on both occasions.

But he recovered quickly to pull out an audacious shot as he faced Jofra Archer for the first time in his Test career. With the pacer straying onto his legs, Akash flicked him with disdain as the ball flew past the gaping square leg fielder over the ropes. Archer was shocked but tried to hide his emotions with a smile as he walked back to his bowling mark.

Twitter was stunned by Akash Deep’s willow-wielding prowess amid loud cheers from the crowd.
