CSK vs MI | Twitter gutted as Curran's unfortunate stumble hands Tilak second life and boundary

When they say cricket is a game of fine margins, they rarely mean that a slip at the boundary can cost you the game but it certainly covers for the possibility. Chennai Super Kings might end up as the victims of such misfortune on Sunday after Sam Curran allowed Tilak Varma to get away scot-free.

‌Chennai Super Kings got their IPL 2025 campaign off to a roaring start at their den in Chennai as Khaleel Ahmed dispatched Rohit Sharma for a four-ball duck in the first over itself before adding Ryan Rickelton to the tally in his next over. The returning prodigal son Ravichandran Ashwin added to the Paltan's misery by having Will Jacks hole out at mid-on and leave the visitors reeling at 36/3 in just the fifth over. It took all the experience of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma to dig their team out of the hole as they built up a fourth wicket stand with quite some intnet, but still needed some help from their age-old rivals to keep the partnership intact when Ravindra Jadeja tried to join the wicket-taking party.

The left-arm spinner was brought into the attack by skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad as soon as the powerplay ended and began his spell with just a solitary run off the first three balls. Tilak, feeling the need to disrupt the veteran before he gets into rhythm, tried to take the challenge head-on by launching the next delivery towards long-off in hopes of clearing the fence. However, the connection was far from perfect, and the Kookaburra seemed to be heading straight down the throat of Sam Curran stationed near the rope. Unfortunately for the Englishman, he was stood a couple of yards too far inside the boundary, and as he tried to pedal back while keeping his eyes fixated on the white rock, his feet gave away leading to a tumble while the ball sailed over his head for a maximum.

Tilak could not help but sport a cheeky smile even as Curran raised a hand in apology to an exasperated Jadeja, the latter's emotions accurately mirroring the Whistle Podu Army's emotions on Twitter.
