The shelf life of a professional athlete in a sport as physically demanding as cricket can be very limited, unless you go by the name of MS Dhoni. The Chennai Super Kings talisman was at it again in his 18th IPL season opener as he executed a lightning quick stumping to get rid of Suryakumar Yadav.

Chennai Super Kings won the opening exchanges, in the Indian Premier League's version of 'El Clasico', against Mumbai Indians at the Chepauk on Sunday as three powerplay wickets left the visitors reeling at 52/ 3 after six overs. However, the vastly experienced stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav combined with his talented protege Tilak Varma to claw back momentum with a rapid half-century stand and looked set to turn the game around all by themselves when the team's score ticked past 80 at the halfway stage. It took a magical intervention from who other than MS Dhoni to flip the scrip in the encounter once again.

Gaikwad chose to continue with Noor Ahmad in the 11th over after the left-arm wrist-spinner conceded just three runs in his first over, and found himself up against Suryakumar Yadav on the third delivery. The Afghan did not wait to dish out his variations as he delivered a googly first up, one that took his counterpart by surprise as he tried to powerfully drive away at the fullish delivery. In the process, the Mumbai skipper seemed to lose his balance and ended up hopping outside of the crease. Even though SKY reacted quickly in trying to drag his feet back, he never stood a chance given Dhoni had whipped the bails off quicker than the batter had a chance to process what had occurred.

Twitterati could not help but reminisce about all the Dhoni stumpings they had relished in the past, the latest  in the collection giving no indication that the former Indian skipper is now 43 years old.

When they say cricket is a game of fine margins, they rarely mean that a slip at the boundary can cost you the game but it certainly covers for the possibility. Chennai Super Kings might end up as the victims of such misfortune on Sunday after Sam Curran allowed Tilak Varma to get away scot-free.
