Run from it, dread it, destiny ‌arrives all the same -- or as we like to call it in cricket, Shardul Thakur is inevitable. The veteran showcased yet again on Thursday why he is monikered the 'Lord' with two wickets in as many balls in the powerplay to stun Sunrisers Hyderabad at their home venue.

The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was all set for yet another display of ruthless power hitting as the Lucknow Super Giants descended on the venue to take on last year's finalists and the much fancied Sunrisers Hyderabad. The Orange Army had already been treated to some breathtaking pyrotechnics in their team's season opener where a near-record score of 286 had helped rout Rajasthan Royals with ease. There was no reason to believe Thursday was going to be even different, with the pitch appearing even flatter and the bowling attack against them a much weaker unit on paper. That is until Shardul Thakur had his say in proceedings.

The right-arm pacer had got Lucknow off to a strong start by conceding just five runs in the opening over against the much-dreaded pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma but the best was yet to come. Shardul began the second over with a sharp bumper aimed at Abhishek's body and the opener tried to break the shackles with a full-blooded pull, only to find himself cramped for room and hole out at square-leg. A brief lull in Hyderabad was follwoed with some raucuous cheers for Ishan was the next man in, hot off an unbeaten 106 on his franchise debut featuring a brilliant array of attacking shots. Yet, the silence took little time to return, as the southpaw ended up glancing his very first delivery straight to Rishabh Pant before embarking on a long walk back to the pavillion for a golden duck. Shardul nearly made his way into the history books as well with a pinpoint yorker on the hattrick ball but Nitish Kumar Reddy proved good enough to somehow dig it out.

Twitter was quick to shower endearing praises on the Lord.

Gone!
